I am very happy and honored to be part of the education system in Nome / Western Alaska and I consider myself fortunate to be in my fourth year working with the best cadets to be found anywhere.
I spent 22 years in the Army as an Air Defense Artillery officer. My experiences ranged from commanding troops in Chaparral / Vulcan units in the First Infantry Division to Inspector General for the 90th RSC (the old 90th Infantry Division "Tough Hombres") to Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of Texas (Arlington) to Comptroller / Business Manager for the Air Defense Artillery School, Joint Task Force Six (Counter-Drug), Fort Bliss and Department of the Army staff at the Pentagon (seven years). I spent two years on a U.S. State Dept contract as a defense analyst for the Nigerian Ministry of Defense in Abuja.
As an Educator, in addition to teaching college ROTC 4 years at the University of Texas at Arlington, I spent 12 years teaching JROTC in the San Antonio area where my armed and unarmed drill teams were the Army National Champions four years in a row and won the All-Service National Championship title at Daytona Beach, Florida.
My goal is to do my best to help everyone of my cadets be successful every day. More than any generation before them, students today are about personal connections, individual expression and real time interaction. Most come from single parent homes and do not interact with a dad. Added to these circumstances are the Native Alaska unique problems our students must overcome. Just as great Educators built into my generation when I was growing up, I want to encourage and inspire my Cadets everyday! Committed to Excellence!
